Lancers. Can't tell whether they are gray , or not. Photo too dark. Anyone?

Maybe Charlotte or someone can color correct and brighten and that will show it?

Here's a little quick adjustment done on Picasa. Does this help?

Ned, those are definitely blue lancers. Also, at the top of the page of the grey and peasant cavalry, are you sure this photo is from John Wayne's Alamo? I never saw those uniforms on any of the cavalry in Wayne's movie.

Those are two different sets of lancers. The ones Ned calls GREY have <for lack of better term> Shoulder Pads. The ones on the LAST photo do not.

The photo are all from slides taken on the set of THE ALAMO. Yes, there were more than one type of lancers. Where is Farkis to weigh in on this?

I'll weigh in on it, Farkis or not. LOL. That top shot is absolutely not on the ranch, nor I think in this area of Texas.

So, you all think the photo is from another film? If so, what film? I'd like to see it.

No idea what film. I'd be interested in knowing too. I just know that the terrain looks nothing like the ranch now or then. And I agree that somehow the costumes (hats, more than anything) look different from anything they had on THE ALAMO. Rounded edges or something.

Sorry. Don't know what film that is or where it was shot, but those uniforms are not from Wayne's Alamo.

Thanks, John.

It would appear it only took two Mexican gunners to manage a cannon.

LOL. Good point. I guess Duke had enough trouble getting them all to stand in a line without having to teach them how to load and fire a cannon.

Actually, from the angle of that cannon barrel, it would appear that a shot would clear the heads of anybody on the palisade by at least ten or fifteen feet -- and possibly hit the bell tower of the church in town.

Rubin Padilla as Santa Anna correctly wears a Mexican officer's undress uniform without
the red breastplate to prevent being a target for enemy sharpshooters. But he also wears
the pale blue sash to indicate that he is commander-in-chief. I wonder who the officer
with the green sash is supposed to be and what rank green represents?

I've always wondered how Wayne's costumes were picked.
