I figure Rich has all sorts of stuff hidden in that bell tower . . . including one of those fancy 3-D printers, probably with a name like the Annihilator 9000.

He doubtless plans to print out all of 1836 Bexar in 1/48 scale, assemble a huge diorama somewhere and charge admission. If it's financially successful, then he'll print out the 1836 Alamo, set it up and then besiege it.

Rich long has wanted to besiege something, other than Schilo's.

Well, I have news as sad as death. A publisher rejected my manuscript. But, they were highly complimentary of the writing, research and thoroughness. Said they were extremely interested but, and get this, it was too long!!!! Too long??? Imagine that. How could a book about Wayne and the Alamo be too long? Said, if I cut it down, they would publish it in a minute. Oh, well. As I told Rick and Rich, I'll just have two versions; an abridged one and a "director's cut."

How much is "too much", John? Currently, I'm ploughing through an 800 page biography of Walt Disney and that probably just touches the tip of the iceberg of his life.

Hansen's "Alamo Reader" is also well over 800 pages. Guess we're living in a sounde-byte society now where the average Joe and Jane has the patience and attention span of
a gnat.

It's probably just like a movie. A top name director can make his movie as long as he wants to, but a new-comer only has 110 minutes, where the studios or distributors are concerned. But there is always niche marketing -- for everything. Gee, maybe there are some niche publishers up in the bell tower.

John, shouldn't the pages be restricted to 1,836?

Chemerka tried restricting something to 1836 once (or should I say $18.36) and landed in debtor's prison -- or so some folks said.

Ya doesn't has to call me Mr. Farkis. You can call me...forget it. Actually, it's coming along just fine. Dotting '"i's" and crossing "t's". Wrapping up the endnotes this week. The big issue is getting copyright permission from all the sources I've cited. Many are covered under the "fair use" doctrine but others have to give permission. I estimate I've used roughly 4,500 citations so it's taking a bit of time. I'll have to receive them, otherwise Il have to go back and re-write and/or paraphrase a few things. Fingers crossed, it should be in the publisher's hands at the end of November.

With John's massive volume, Mark's epic canvas and a real possibility of a roadshow Blu Ray, it's a good time to be an Alamo fan. Wonder what the next 54 years will bring?

My proof-read is up to Chapter 27 and I am absolutely having the time of my life -- and that's after spending most of it at Alamo Village! It is the whole story of the production -- and then some -- to a degree that I have never even imagined possible. You are in for the treat of your lives!

I want to thank my good friend Mike Boldt for coming up with the design. I asked if I could use his photo and he came up with the concept. A perfect connection between the film and the real Alamo. A brilliant photo taken by Rick Hassler of the Alamo at Alamo Village will be on the back cover. I can't show it to you yet as Rick's sent me so many wonderful photos, I'm having a hard time picking the one I want to use!!
