Ashley,if my poster(from Finland)is a Danish original how come it has Finnish/Swedish text along the top?

Peder, you certainly know the language better than I do. I will have to pull my examples out and look. Do you recall any of them with strictly Swedish writing, and no Finnish?

I would consider an Alamo poster "rare" if I have only seen one example, or if I have never been able to come up with one. I have only seen one example of the Belgian Todd-AO poster (England), and will gladly pay top dollar for one. I have the
general release version (which does NOT say in Todd-AO). The rarest Alamo poster (for me at least) is the 1960/61 domestic six sheet...in either Todd-AO or general release version. I am not referring to the R67 six sheet, which I already have.
I will also offer top money for the aforementioned first issue six sheet. This is even rarer than the Icelandic Todd-AO program!!!

Would you be interested in owning the movie set where it was filmed? Only top dollar, though. ;)

Even if I had the money, I wouldn't throw it away like that. I would sooner apply my funds to restoring the film, but that isn't going to happen either.

Looks like its contrast was bumped up a bit, but I like it that way -- and that surprises me.

I like the black and white contrast also...but I'm still real fond of the high resolution color version... :)

It's always interesting to see those colorized photos, like the ones on those Italian posters. The rule of thumb seems to be "Use a lot of red". It's especially fun looking at that third poster showing the flag raising. Were those flag raisers from the Canadian contingent? Maybe that explains Travis's red coat (and accent).

That's wild! Somebody assembled this. All those actors were never on set at the same time. Also, the lighting is different on each person. It's a composite of actors from many many different scenes and then placed into the background. The background shot itself is intriguing. It is a production still from the scene where Bowie rides in. It is not a lift from the movie. Doc is in the same position on the wall as in the filmed scene, with one foot up on the wall. Dickinson is in his second position after hurrying along the top of the low barrack. He has just said, "Col. Travis, Bowie is approaching." My guess is that the background was one of those lush extremely wide angle color photos taken during the filming for publicity. It must have been shot between takes of that scene with Ken Curtis' dialogue. I have never seen it before. Kudos to whoever copy-pasted all the stars in the foreground. Must have been done recently and digitally.

Guess I couldn't fool you, Rich! The montage was created by Laurence Golbey. As many of the characters (like Harvey) do not have full
head-to-toe stills of them, Laurence had to manipulate the images and then paint in the shadows etc. The original hangs in his living
room, framed and surrounded by his autographs of the corresponding cast members.

Just how large was the Alamo Poster? Sometimes I see more of the Mexican army on both sides.

No "larger" than what was depicted in the Reynold Brown painting.

In Hollywood jargon, this is called the "key art" for the movie -- the one painting that is used as graphics on every poster and ad, sometimes in its entirety and sometimes just a portion. The composition of the painting lends itself to a horizontal ad (like in the major newspapers) or to a vertical ad (everywhere else). Same with posters and theater promotion elements. In Tokyo, the whole painting was reproduced in a huge poster as large as the front of the theater.

That painting, or a copy of it used to hang just inside the entrance to the Alamo Museum and Gift Shop. It's been many years since I last saw it there, and the last time that I DID see it there, it looked as if someone had keyed the painting, carving a big scratch across the picture. I figured that's why it was removed. When you referred to it as "key art", I remembered seeing it hanging there defaced by that scratch. Was that painting that used to hang there the original painting, or was it just a copy? Either way, it was a shame that someone marred it like that.

That is the original Reynold Brown painting. Wayne gave it to the Alamo. It was hanging in the entrance to the gift shop and was defaced by some @&//><%!! tourist. Mike Waters meticulously restored it -- and then the DRT kept it in the dark, 3-foot wide hallway of the inaccessible Alamo offices. Bruce Winders resurrected it for display inside the gift shop during our 2010 50th. Anniversary exhibit (motivated and coordinated by John Farkis). The above photo is of the painting. it may be in the Alamo Hall. I think Ned took that pic during the showing of THE ALAMO in there several years ago. Ned?

The painting was no longer hanging in Alamo Hall at the Grand Opening of the Bowie exhibit earlier this year, Rich.
