Linda Cristal--Pepper Pot of the Pampas

Postby garyzaboly on Fri Aug 20, 2010 9:03 pm

In his big book on moviemaking, THE FIFTY YEAR DECLINE AND FALL OF HOLLYWOOD, Ezra Goodman often touched on the movie gossip magazines that kept alive many myths of Hollywood and its stars. While talking about certain articles in Motion Picture magazine he wrote:

"Bringing up the tag end of the article right after the foregoing paragraph is the line, 'Linda Cristal co-stars in UA's The Alamo. (Fan magazines usually run helpful current movie credits after each heart-breaking story.) Incidentally, the press agents for the Alamo sent out a publicity release about LInda in which she was described as "the pepper pot of the pampas" and as a "tempestuous, sloe-eyed looker with eye-filling proportions---bust 36 1/2, waist 22, hips 36." The publicity release also noted that "Linda projects that rare combination of tenderness, tumultuous animal vitality that makes strong men weak and weak women envious." LInda figured in the gossip columns recently when a rather unclothed picture of her appeared in Playboy Magazine."

This gave new meaning to "man the breastworks!"

Truer words were never spoken. In fact, numerous articles at the time gave out her measurements. Hummm???

Ahem... Though I've had them since 1980, I held out posting any of those tree pictures of Linda, in deference to her status
as a lady. She may be reading this even now. :|

Same sentiments here Ned.

I have about 6 photos of this incident when Linda was I believe
thrown in the river and I out of respect for her will not post them
either.

I think Linda, even now, would be highly flattered that we admire her as the healthy woman she was/is. That is a form of respect.

I agree with Gary. I think it would bring a smile to her face, unless I gauge her wrong. Her classiness encompasses it all.

Does anyone know if she'll be in SA in Oct? I remember she didn't come to the reunion in '98 at B'ville because she wanted to be paid for her appearance and the Village didn't have the funds to pay her. She also wanted to be paid for any signed photos,so they weren't available, either. Joan O'Brien,on the other hand, did come and was very gracious about taking pictures, talking to everyone one on one, and signing autographs. She also sang a few songs with Rudy Robbins and his band - she still sounded pretty good, but she couldn't remember the words to "Tennessee Babe", so we didn't have the pleasure of hearing her sing that. Will she be in SA in Oct?

Unfortunately, Linda and Joan will not be able to attend. I've spoken to each individually to no avail.

Mind you seeing " The Alamo " at The Imax in all it's glory makes up
for it, well it does for me.

Thanks for the update and for trying so hard
to get them to attend John.

I also was disappointed that she couldn't do "Tennessee Babe," but I figured it out. Joan never really had to sing anything but the chorus in the movie or in the "Spirit of the Alamo." In all likelihood, that is all she learned. It would be the usual thing -- like just learning your own lines for a movie. She is a classy lady.

Hi folks. How about some good screen captures of Linda in different scenes from THE ALAMO?
