The "lady in distress' look.

And it's not a photo, but rather a transperency, sort of an oversized (8x10) slide.

The original was shot on an 8 x 10 sheet of slide film? I know Ashely Ward has collected several of those.

I use to have an 8x10 transparency that I gave to Laurence Golbey. It was of Santa Anna's army "avalanching across mountain and plain".

Linda made some really bad movies. Here's one.

http://peplums.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

She seemed superfluous in The Alamo. Underutilized. Okay, Davy has to have a love object even through it goes nowhere.
She would have been better cast as Bowie's sister in law Ursula. That way she could have stayed throughout the siege and the film.

Besides, Davy was married to a woman back home in Tennessee.

Not taking a thing way from her beauty or acting ability. I was a big fan of High Chaparral.

"The kooky killer is on the loose. Don't dare turn your back on him?????" Now that's a log-line! One of Hugh O'Brian's classier parts... or is he the good guy? I wonder how come this wasn't included in Linda Cristal's bio in "The Alamo" publicity.

Trivia notes from imdb.com:

In his autobiography, "The Kid Stays in the Picture," Robert Evans says that this movie had the following working titles: "The Hell-Bent Kid", "Rope Law", "Enough Rope", "Quick Draw", "Quick Draw at Red Rock", and "The Hell-Bent Kid II". This mistakenly created the impression that Evans was appearing in more films than he actually was. The final title came from a marketing exec trying to cater to both western and horror film audiences.

Fox reused the music score from The Day the Earth Stood Still by Bernard Herrmann in this picture, much to his regret. He was outraged, and told the studio executives what he thought of it when he received notice from the Musicians' Union in 1958.

Duke and Linda, from Mo Jones' collection.
Look at the nice set dressing like the flowers, box on table and long-stemmed pitcher. I wonder what it must have felt
like to Duke to be walking around on a fantasy set that he had built for his film?

I teach seventh grade TX history and in my class we have been discussing and watching The Alamo. One day recently in class I found myself thinking of just how beautiful Mrs. Cristal is. Later that evening an episode of The High Chaparral was on television and she looked stunning in it as well. I can never get enough of these pictures that have been posted here in this forum.......especially if she is by the tree or creek. Thanks to all for posting!

I just watched the new BluRay release of John Ford's Two Rode Together (filmed at Alamo Village and Fort Clark the year after The Alamo)and was reminded how her beauty shines through in that as well. She plays an Indian squaw who is really a white captive from Mexico named Elena de la Madriaga. I'm sure your seventh graders were likewise impressed with her in The Alamo -- I know I was at that age!!!!

I miss giving 7th. grade history class tours at Alamo Village. With my historical knowledge of the actual battle and the best visual aid ever -- John Wayne's Alamo compound -- I was able to literally walk them through the battle and make it real for them.

Well, I'm just a little over 1 year behind in reading this thread and making a comment. I realize that we don't always see people the same way. I have often told my wife, Loretta, that she reminds me of Linda Crystal. I stare at framed photographs of Loretta taken at our wedding and before, and I still see it. Loretta's father was born in Ecuador and her mother was Texas born-Spanish with a touch of Irish. I won't post a photo of her, for her own privacy, and like I said, what I see might not be the same as what others see. Loretta's smile and her once long black hair that I see in the wedding pictures is very much like Linda Crystal's. There's also a picture of Loretta, taken before I courted her, in which her hair is pulled back and fashioned much as Flaca's was when we first see her.
I showed Loretta one of Linda's pre-Alamo photos posted here, and at a quick glance, she agreed that Linda Crystal could have been her sister or cousin. I didn't show her the pictures of Linda Crystal in various stages of undress, because I didn't want Loretta to think I'm barking up the wrong tree. In fact, it felt ungentlemanly to even see those pictures in the first place, like walking into a dressing room without knocking. Really.
So, I lucked out and married my dream girl who I wouldn't trade for anyone, not even Linda Cristal.
